Dr. Robert Bartlett

Dr Robert Bartlett developed extracorporeal life support (ECLS) from the laboratory through the first successful clinical trials to routine practice worldwide. ECLS has led to a new understanding of the pathophysiology of renal, cardiac, and pulmonary failure, which provides the basis for much of modern critical care. Dr Bartlett continues laboratory and clinical research at the University of Michigan where he is Professor of Surgery, Emeritus.
